Resources for Soundscape Baselines Project

How To Videos

We created these resources specifically for the Soundscape Baselines Project, but they may be useful for anyone wanting to learn about recording soundscapes in a forest. For recordings, we are using Autonomous Recording Units from Frontier Labs (BAR-LT). Some of the tips we mention might be applicable to other commonly used devices. Grace Ingram lead the creation of these video tutorials.

Equipment and protocols

Are you curious what equipment a team needs to deploy and maintain a Soundscape Baseline site? Download our checklists and protocols in your preferred language! For most baseline sites, the Sound Forest Lab provides all the necessary equipment, but if you have equipment and would you like to be part of the project, this is also a possibility. Get in touch either way!

Below, you can also download sample meta-data sheets that are filled at each site. This includes information about who is collecting the data, what is the site like (e.g. how dense is the canopy?), precise geographic location, and other important data that will help make sure the resulting soundscapes can be properly analyzed.
